Garron Gibbs remembers the exact date he decided to leave his first job after college to start working for himself: January 30, 2012.

The move came from realizing he didn’t fit in with the “corporate white collar environment” that existed in the radio station where he worked in sales after graduating from Howard University. Specifically, in 2009, Gibbs witnessed a bunch of layoffs and heard from a manager firsthand the only reason he wasn’t fired was because he didn’t cost as much.

“It wasn’t really a good environment for me to grow, and no one really cared about my professional development,” Gibbs said.

Now, as the founder and one-man team behind local digital marketing agency TwoG Marketing, Gibbs helps small businesses and nonprofits with their web design and lead generation marketing, which is a way of helping businesses tell their stories.

The acronym for TwoG, “The work of God,” is something
